Connelly and Guilleux Finish Inside Top-10 at Rio Verde Intercollegiate

RIO VERDE, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – Behind the solid play of sophomore Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) and junior Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval), the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished in 11th place at the Rio Verde Invitational with a 54-hole mark of 923 (308-305-310) Sunday, Feb. 25, on the par-72 Quail Run Golf Course.
Connelly finished tied for fifth place with a 223 (77-75-71) and Guilleux took seventh with a 224 (73-74-77), making EMU one of just two teams in the tournament to boast a pair of top 10 finishers. Connelly's top five showing was her second of career, while it was the third top 10 finish of Guilleux's career.
Seton Hall University (307-296-299=902) claimed the tournament title with a one shot victory over the University of Akron (306-293-304=903). The Zips' Danielle Nicholson rolled the individual title with a 214 (76-68-70), six strokes ahead of teammate Jacinta Pikunas (71-75-74=220).
For EMU, freshman Preaw Sripatrprasite (Bangkok, Thailand-Siam International) tied for 56th place with a 239 (81-79-79), while sophomores Julia Stevenson (Milford, Mich.-Milford) and Katelin Lawson (LaSalle, Ontario-Ridge Community-Tampa) posted a 242 (82-77-83) and a 244 (77-81-86), respectively.
Continuing in her return from injury, junior Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) could not complete here final round and had to withdrawal from the tournament.
The Eagles return to action March 16-18 at the 3M Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
