BOCA RATON, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University baseball continues its Florida Spring Break swing when it heads to Boca Raton, Fla. for a midweek contest against NCAA Division II Lynn University Tuesday, Feb. 20. First pitch against the Fighting Knights is set for 2:30 p.m.
The action can be followed live on Twitter by following @EMU_Baseball. Live stats can be tracked on Lynn's website, while a live strem will also be produced by LU. Links can be found on the schedule page of EMUEagles.com.

EMU AGAINST THE DII: Tuesday marks the first time EMU will take on an NCAA Division II opponent since March 25, 2015, when the Eagles hosted Wayne State University in a 10-6 victory. Additionally, this will be the first time Eastern will face a non-D1 opponent away from the state of Michigan since the 2000 season, when the Eagles played three other Sunshine State Conference members down in Florida, competing twice each against Rollins, St. Leo, and Florida Southern. EMU finished 2-4 against the three teams, with wins over Rollins, 2-0, and Florida Southern, 5-4.

SCHUEMANN's BIG WEEKEND: Junior Max Schuemann had an electric start to the 2018 season in the four-game series against FGCU, Feb. 16-18. The infielder went 11-for-19 (.579) in the four-game stretch, including back-to-back four-hit games in the season-opening doubleheader to tie his career-high. Three of his hits were doubles, to go along with two RBIs, six runs scored, and three steals, while not striking out once.
Schuemann's 11 hits were the most by any player in college baseball's opening weekend, while his 2.75 hits per game were third-most.

WALKOFF HEARTBREAK: In the four-game opening weekend series against Florida Gulf Coast, FGCU recorded three wins in walk-off fashion to deal EMU three heartbreaking losses. In two of the games, EMU had a lead into the eighth inning, only to see FGCU make the late comeback.

ZOOM ZOOM: In each of the last three seasons, EMU has finished in the top-60 nationally in stolen bases, including third in the NCAA in 2016 and 11th in 2015. This season, Eastern is off to a fast start on the base paths, as they swiped 12 bags in the opening weekend, good for second in the country.

CAREER WEEKEND: Multiple EMU players had career-best showings in the opening weekend series at FGCU. Max Schuemann tied his career-best with four hits in each of the first two games, while Zachary Owings set new career-bests with his four-hit, five-RBI day in game three of the series, Feb. 17, including his first career home run. Also setting a new career-standard was Drake Peggs, who scored four runs in the Feb. 17 game.

"CRUZ"ING IN HIS DEBUT: Junior college transfer Cameron Cruz had a solid debut in his first three games in the Green and White. The centerfielder made three starts, and notched three hits, two runs, and three RBIs, including the first home run of his EMU career.

RACKING UP THE FLYER MILES: As with most northern based teams, EMU is forced to play its early season games in warmer climates before it can play games at home.  The Eagles will play its first 20 games away from Ypsilanti this season.

HELLO MY NAME IS: With a senior-laden squad last season, EMU saw its fair share of turnover this offseason to the roster. Entering 2018, EMU has more newcomers (15) than returning letterwinners (13), having lost 14 lettermen from a season ago.

RETURNING PRODUCTION: The newcomers will be expected to fill big roles in a hurry, as EMU lost six primary position starters from a season ago, as well as six go-to pitchers. In total, EMU returns just 37.5 percent of its at-bats from a season ago, as well as 44.1 percent of its innings.

ON THE HORIZON: The Eagles complete their spring break trip with a four-game weekend series in Jackson, Miss. against Jackson State University, Feb. 23-25. The series with the Tigers begins at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, and concluding with a Sunday matinée at 1 p.m. Sunday.
