MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team treks to Mount Pleasant, Mich. looking to even the season series against Mid-American Conference West Division-leading Central Michigan University Saturday, Feb. 17. Tipoff between EMU and CMU is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside McGuirk Arena.
A gritty comeback win over Ohio, Feb. 14, snapped a five-game losing skid for Eastern Michigan, as the Eagles improved their record to 10-14 on the season and 6-7 in league play. Meanwhile, Central Michigan saw its 12-game winning streak come to a halt with an 85-82 setback at Buffalo, Feb. 14. The loss was CMU's first conference defeat this season, dropping the Chippewas to 20-4 overall and 12-1 in MAC play.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN3, while veteran broadcasters Chad Bush and Greg Steiner will have the call on WEMU 89.1 FM. Fans can also follow via Twitter, @EMUWBB.
DOUBLE THE FUN: For the third time in the past eight years, fans of Eastern Michigan basketball will get the chance to see both the men's and women's teams in back-to-back contests at the same road venue Saturday, Feb. 17. Overall, it will be the sixth time it has happened in the past 16 seasons.
The last occurrence was a season ago in Kalamazoo, Mich. against Western Michigan University, Feb. 18, 2017. The women's team came up short, 80-70, while the men's team fell, 88-80.
STYMIED IN THE SECOND: EMU stymied Ohio in the second quarter of its 73-58 win, Feb. 14. The Eagles held the Bobcats to just four points in the frame, tying for the fewest EMU has allowed since shifting from halves to quarters prior to the 2015-16 season.
The Bobcats went 1-for-11 from the floor and 1-of-4 from the free throw line. Eastern held Ohio without a point for the first five minutes of the frame, while it took until the 3:25 mark for OU to sink a bucket.
FANTASTIC FOURTH: EMU put up 30 points in the fourth quarter against Ohio, Feb. 14, the third-most points Eastern has scored in a period since the start of the 2015-16 season. Additionally, the Green and White put together one its most efficient frames, going 10-of-12 from the floor for an 83.3 percent field goal percentage. Eastern Michigan's 83.3 field goal percentage in the final stanza is the second-best in EMU history, just off the record mark of 86.7 percent that EMU put up versus Northern Illinois, Jan. 20.
PLENTY TO GO AROUND: Since conference play has rolled around, Eastern Michigan has seen the best of its three-headed monster. In league games only, EMU is one of two teams to have three players inside the top-15 in scoring, with Central Michigan being the only other team to do so. Danielle Minott's 18.4 points per contest rank fifth-most, while Courtnie Lewis comes in at 10th at 16.6 ppg. Sasha Dailey rounds out the trio at 15th with 15.6 points per contest.
DIAPER DANDY DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Courtnie Lewis registered the second double-double of her career with a 14-point, 11-rebound performance against Ohio, Feb. 14. With her double-double against Buffalo, Jan. 27, Lewis became the 10th "true" freshman to do so since the 1998-99 campaign, and the first since Phillis Webb posted one against Evansville in the first round of the Women's Basketball Invitational, March 20, 2014. Her latest outing not only tied her with Emoni Jackson for the active team lead, but also gave her the most double-doubles in a freshman season since Kelly Watts notched three during the 2006-07 campaign.
LAST WIN OVER CMU: Eastern Michigan has not tasted victory against in-state foe Central Michigan since the 2014-15 campaign. That season, the Green and White closed out the regular season with a, 93-86, win over the Chippewas at McGuirk, EMU's third consecutive win against CMU.
CHIP DIP: Saturday's contest marks the 83rd meeting between the Chippewas and Eagles, who first met during the 1976-77 season. CMU leads the overall series, 47-35. EMU has won 22 of the last 37 meetings dating back to the 2000-01 campaign, but CMU enters Saturday as winners of six straight against Eastern.
Central Michigan held off Eastern Michigan, 95-72, in Ypsilanti, Feb. 3. Three Eagles scored in double figures for the Green and White, paced by Courtnie Lewis' 20-point effort, but CMU shot 61.4 percent from the field to clip EMU.
ON THE HORIZON: Eastern Michigan wraps up a two-game road trip in the Glass City Wednesday, Feb. 21. There, EMU will look to sweep Toledo for the first time since 2014, after knocking the Rockets off, 83-76, in Ypsilanti, Jan. 6.
