Baseball Selected Seventh in MAC Preseason Poll

EMU received 40 points in the survey of leagues coaches

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University baseball team was selected to finish seventh in the preseason Mid-American Conference coaches poll, the league office announced Thursday, Feb. 15. 

Kent State was picked to finish on top of the MAC with 98 points, including eight of the ten first-place votes. Central Michigan, Ball State, Ohio, and Miami rounded out the top-five, respectively, while Western Michigan, EMU, Toledo, Northern Illinois, and Bowling Green completed the rest of the poll, respectively. In addition, Miami and NIU received the other two first-place votes.

EMU is coming off a third-place regular season finish a season ago, that culminated with a run to the MAC Tournament Championship game. It was EMU's first appearance in the title game since winning the tournament in 2008. EMU's 27 overall wins and 14-10 conference record were its best since 2011.

The Eagles open the 2018 season tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 16, when they take on Florida Gulf Coast University for a four-game set down in Ft. Myers, Fla. The Eagles' 56-game slate is highlighted by 16 games at Oestrike Stadium, opening with a series against Miami University Friday, March 23.
