EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team wraps up the dual portion of its schedule Friday, Feb. 16, with a tri-dual in East Lansing, Mich. There, EMU will battle Clarion University and Michigan State University at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
The duals can be followed on Twitter, @EMUWrestling, while a live stream will be available on BTN Plus/FloWrestling. Results will be provided through TrackWrestling and will be posted to EMUEagles.com following the match.
LAST TIME OUT: Eastern Michigan dropped its final conference dual of the season, 29-7, at No. 16 Central Michigan University, Feb. 9. EMU won two bouts, as Noah Gonser secured a 3-1 decision at 133 lbs. and Zac Carson cruised to a 14-5 major decision at 165 lbs.
CLASHING WITH THE SPARTANS: Michigan State is 5-10 overall entering the weekend, including 1-8 in the difficult Big Ten Conference. It has wrestled common opponents No. 17 Central Michigan, Buffalo, and Binghamton. The Spartans have posted a 2-1 record against the three foes, while the Eagles are 1-2 against them, with the lone win coming over Buffalo, 26-10.
CATCHING UP WITH CLARION: Clarion is 9-5 overall entering the weekend, including 4-2 in the Eastern Wrestling League. Cleveland State is the lone common opponent between EMU and CU. Eastern topped CSU, 29-13, on the road back on Dec. 8, while Clarion defeated Cleveland State, 20-12, at home.
GAUGING THE GOLDEN EAGLES: The Eagles and Golden Eagles have squared off every season since 2005-06, with the series sitting at 8-3-1 in favor of EMU over that span. Last season, Eastern edged out Clarion, 18-16, in Pennsylvania.
ALL-TIME VS MSU: EMU and MSU will meet for the 22nd time on Friday, with the Spartans holding an 18-3 advantage in the series. The series dates back to the 1976-77 season, with both teams meeting annually since the 2007-08 campaign.
LAST TIME WE MET: A pin by Sa'Derian Perry at 133 lbs. proved to be the difference as Eastern Michigan edged out Clarion, 18-16, Nov. 18, 2016. Despite tying in match ups, Perry's pin was the lone bout decided by bonus points, as Nick Barber, Zac Carson, Kayne MacCallum, and Gage Hutchison picked up decisions.
The Spartans spoiled the Eagles' Senior Day with a tight 17-16 defeat, Feb. 12, 2017. Splitting the matches 5-5, all but two were resulted in decisions. MSU notched a tech fall at 141 lbs., while Derek Hillman registered an 11-0 major decision at 197 lbs.
