The senior is Eastern's first singles player of the week this season

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — For the first time this season, the Eastern Michigan University tennis team has the honor of Mid-American Conference singles player of the week, as senior Ani Gogvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia-Khikhani) was named the recipient Wednesday, Feb. 14 for the week ending Feb. 11.

The senior went 2-0 on the weekend in both matches at No. 1, coming away with a 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 victory over Pittsburgh, while also beating Cleveland State 6-3, 6-4. Gogvadze is now 4-0 in the dual season, playing all matches at No. 1. She's also teamed with fellow senior Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic) at No. 2 doubles to go 3-1 on the season. The Eagles went 1-1 on the week, dominating Cleveland State 5-2, and falling in a close battle with Pittsburgh.

Eastern has earned a weekly honor in each of the first three weeks of the season, as Gogvadze also teamed with fellow senior Andrea Martinovska to win doubles team of the week, as well as the pair of Marie Mayerova (Krmelin, Czech Republic) and Giuliana Ansaloni (Bergamo, Italy-Centro Studi Leonardo Da Vinci), who won the award Jan. 31 for their work in the Eagles' win over Youngstown State.

The Eagles are 3-3 on the season and hit the road for eight consecutive matches, beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18 at Oral Roberts University.
