FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) — Sophomore Kylie Sutherlin (Fishers, Ind.) of the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team was named the CollegeSwimming.com Co-Swimmer of the Week for the Mid-American Conference, following her dominating performance at the Ohio State Winter Invitational Feb. 11-12. Sutherlin is the third Eagle to win the weekly award this season, joining Delaney Duncan and Nicole Swartz in the ranks.
Racing against swimmers from some of the top teams in the nation, Sutherlin used a pair of career-best times to lock up two top-five finishes. The Fishers, Ind. native top placement over the weekend came in the 100 butterfly where she posted a third-place finish at 55.94 after clocking a career-best time of 55.88 in the prelims. The sophomore then went on to take fifth in the 200 individual medley with a career-best time of 2:05.72.
CollegeSwimming.com selects 44 women and 38 men's conference swimmers-of-the-week based off the previous week's swimming results. The selections are independent of selections made by each conference every week.
The Eagles return to the pool next week, Feb. 21-24, when they travel to Ohio University to participate in the MAC Championships. The Green and White are in the hunt for its first conference championship title since the 2006-07 season after finishing runner-up in each of the last three seasons.
