Eastern Michigan Earns CSCAA Scholar All-American Award

NORFOLK, Va. (EMUEagles.com) —
Eastern Michigan University men's and women's swimming and diving programs were named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) NCAA Division I Scholar All-American Team for the 2017 Fall semester, as was announced by CSCAA Monday, Jan. 29. Eastern was one of just 95 NCAA Division I institutions to have both the men's and women's team earn the award.

A record 688 teams, representing 430 institutions earned the honor. To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher over the fall semester.

On the women's side, the Eagles turned in a team GPA of 3.58. Seven of the eight Mid-American Conference members earned the distinction, with EMU tied for the second-highest mark. Currently, the Green and White locked up it's third consecutive season with a perfect conference season as they downed Miami Saturday, Jan. 29. The Eagles moved to 4-0 in conference duals while sitting at 7-1 overall.

The men boast a 3.15 GPA, the third highest in the conference, of which only four programs in the MAC earned the honor. EMU is now 6-1 in duals this season and 2-0 in conference as it cruised past Miami last weekend.

Founded in 1922, the CSCAA – the oldest organization of college coaches in America -is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.

The Eagles return to action Friday, Feb. 2 when they honor the seniors in the final dual of the season against Albion College. Action inside Jones Natatorium is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
