The Eagles look for their 24th consecutive dual win over the Cardinals

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — After a six-week hiatus, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team returns to the pool for a Mid-American Conference dual against Ball State University, Saturday Jan. 13. The Eagles will make the trek down to Muncie, Ind. in hunt of their 24th consecutive dual win over the Cardinals.

Eastern wrapped up the 2017 portion of its schedule with a dominating first-place finish at the EMU Invitational, Dec. 1-2. The Green and White ran away with the meet, totaling 1,268.5 points to best a field that included Ball State, Wayne State, Albion, and Tiffin. Senior Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va., Hickory) had an outstanding showing, racking up 56 points behind two individual wins, a third-place finish, and four relay event wins. The Chesapeake, Va native ultimately earned MAC Swimmer of the Week and CollegeSwimming.com MAC Swimmer of the Week for his efforts. In the 200 butterfly, Logan used a season-best time of 1:46.45 to clock the fastest time in the MAC this season. Junior Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary), who tallied 57 points during the two-day competition, had the fastest 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley times for the Eagles this campaign at 1:44.96 and 1:50.04, respectively.

Over the years, the Green and White have compiled an impressive 39-4 dual record over the Cardinals. Last season, Eastern started the year off right, coming away with a 150-125 win to open up conference action, Jan. 14. En route to victory, 11 different Eagles recorded first-place finishes as Eastern won 15-of-16 events. Then-sophomore Tom Gillis (Halifax, Nova Scotia-Citadel) paced the Eagles with two individual wins, sweeping the diving events with a pair of 300+ scores.

Action inside Lewellen Aquatic Center is slated to begin at 1 p.m. Fans can follow along on the MeetMobile app.
