Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are football's Brody Hoying, and volleyball's Kelly Ferguson.
Brody Hoying
Sport: Football
Position: Defensive Back
Year: Redshirt sophomore
Major: Supply Chain Management
Week's Achievements:
Redshirt sophomore defensive back Brody Hoying (Coldwater, Ohio-Coldwater) turned in a career game as Eastern Michigan topped Charlotte, 24-7, on opening night. The Coldwater, Ohio native registered the first interception of his career, returning it 35 yards for a touchdown, and added two more near-INT's in the form of pass breakups. His pick-six was the first by an Eagle since Sept. 17, 2017. Hoying finished the day with six tackles, four solo and two assisted, ranking second on the team in stops. Hoying's effort helped the Eagles hold their opponent to the lowest season-opening point total since the 2008 campaign.
Kelly Ferguson

Year: Senior

Week's Achievements:
Senior Kelly Ferguson (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont) was a consistent force on defense for the Eagles in their matches this weekend, Sept. 1-2. Ferguson tallied nine blocks over three matches, averaging 1.00 blocks/set. The senior also provided EMU with offense over the three matches, finishing with 16 kills (1.78 kills per match) and only two errors on 32 attempts for a .438 attack percentage. For her efforts, Ferguson was named to the UniWyo Invitational All Tournament Team. She finished the weekend with 22.5 total points, as the Eagles went 1-2.
