21 Rowers Earn CAA Commissioner's Academic Award

Athletes with at least a 3.20 were eligible for selection
RICHMOND, Va. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University rowing team had 21 student-athletes receive the 2017 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Commissioner's Academic Award for the Winter/Spring semester, the conference announced Friday, Aug. 4.
Among the honorees were seniors Samantha Allen (Pomona, N.J.-Absegami), Autumn Little (Taylor, Mich.-Riverview Community), Caitlyn Maguire (Dayton, Ohio-Vandalia Butler), and Rachel Turner (Sylvania, Ohio-Sylvania Northview), sophomores Sarah Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio-Charles F. Brush), Jennifer Bucci (Toronto, Ont.-Bishop Allen Academy), Mia Forman (South Pasadena, Calif.-South Pasadena), Baylee Kinkade (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central), Christa Maddick (Stockbridge, Mich.-Stockbridge), Lauren Magnuson (Saint Joseph, Mich.-Saint Joseph), Johnni Morris (Fairfield, Ohio-Fairfield), Cailey Muir (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Saline), Addison Oblanas (Seattle, Wash.-Seattle Academy), Makenna Rothert (Liberty Township, Mich.-Lakota West), Kelli Sharples (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney), and Rebekah Wheeler (Newark, Ohio-Newark), and freshmen Karissa Fald (Carvel, Alberta-Memorial Composite), Amanda Flora (Greenfield, Ind.-Greenfield Central), Taylor Heard (Massilon, Ohio-Northwest), Karson Mahaney (Troy, Ohio-Miami East), and Ashly Matzek (Ellsworth, Wis.-Ellsowrth).
The CAA Commissioner's Academic Award gives special recognition to those student-athletes who have distinguished themselves both in the classroom and in the athletic arena. Those student-athletes that are members of a team in a CAA sport and achieved at least a 3.20 grade point average based on semester/quarter performance or cumulative GPA.
In total, 1,414 student-athletes in the CAA received the honor. EMU had 21 of the 148 rowing athletes on the list. For the full list please click here.
