Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are soccer players Sabrina McNeill and Kaylin Williams.

Major: Physical Education



Week's Achievements: Reigning MAC Freshman of the Year, Sabrina McNeill led the way for the Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team over opening weekend, Aug. 18-20. In EMU's season opener, McNeill recorded two shots, both of which were on frame and scored the Eagles' lone goal. McNeill's strike, the sixth of her career, helped Eastern to a 1-1 draw versus preseason Missouri Valley Conference favorite, Illinois State. McNeill kept up her strong start to the season Sunday, Aug. 20, notching the fourth assist of her career to fuel EMU to a 2-1 win over Illinois-Chicago on the road. McNeill's helper led to Alia Frederick's game-winning goal. Fueled by the play of the Whitby, Ontario native, Eastern Michigan is off to its best start since 2014. Additionally, McNeill is the one of two players in the conference to record a point in two games this weekend, while she's the only player in the MAC West to accomplish the feat.

Week's Achievements: Facing a total of 30 shots over the first two games of the season, junior goalkeeper Kaylin Williams was solid in goal for the Eastern Michigan University soccer team. Williams made 10 saves and yielded just two goals in 200 minutes of action. Following a three-save performance against Missouri Valley Conference preseason favorite Illinois State, Aug. 18, Williams stood on her head to secure EMU's 2-1 win over Illinois Chicago, Aug. 20. Making a season-high seven saves, Williams made four saves in the final minutes of action to hold off a late flurry of shots by the Flames to preserve the 2-1 victory.
