XENIA, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) —
Eastern Michigan University's 2017 football campaign got underway today, Aug. 2, when the Eagles held their first practice of the season.  The weather was perfect for the team as they went through their drills at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex & Retreat Center in Xenia, Ohio.

Head coach Chris Creighton, in his fourth year at the helm, guided the Eagles through the workout as they prepare for the 2017 season opener Friday, Sept. 1, when EMU hosts the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

"There's no better day than the first day of camp," Creighton exclaimed. "It was a really smooth transition coming down here and we're really excited about being off campus for a few days at this awesome facility. We had a great meeting last night, then the first practice today with a lot of energy. We're a lot further ahead than what we've been and that's what you get in a fourth year so it felt good."

Due to the AAU Junior Olympic Games taking place at Rynearson Stadium, the Eagles are hosting their first four practices, Aug., 2-5, away from home before making the 213-mile journey back to Ypsilanti following Saturday's practice.

This practice was the first of the three-day acclimatization period where the players can only wear helmets, before donning shoulder pads on the fourth day, and finally full pads on the fifth day.  Also, a new wrinkle to the 2017 camp schedule is the elimination of two-a-days during preseason practice.

Throughout the session, Coach Creighton and his staff kept the intensity at a high level as the players worked through their respective drills.  The day began with individual position workouts before the offense and defense lined up for multiple plays against each other. The team also used the time for some team bonding as part of an agility course.

The Eagles open the 2017 season under the lights at "The Factory" inside Rynearson Stadium Friday, Sept. 1, versus Charlotte. Single-game tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday, Aug. 7. Season tickets are available for purchase at EMUEagles.com/tickets, by calling 734.487.3669 or by visiting the EMU Ticket Office daily between 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
