Four Eagles Named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars

The Eagles' four selections were the most in the Mid-American Conference
NORMAN, Okla. (EMUEagles.com) — Four members of the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association announced Wednesday, July 26. Earning the honor for the Eagles were Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview (Grand Rapids C.C.)), Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth), Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary), and Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern (Owens C.C.)).
EMU's four selections was one better than last year's number of selections and also led the Mid-American Conference. Akron, Ball State, and Kent State had two honorees apiece, while Bowling Green and Miami had one each.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
A total of 260 players in Division I, 108 in Division II, and 20 in NAIA were recognized.
Multer, receiving the honor for the first time in his career, maintained a 3.83 GPA in the Accounting 150 program, which earns him both a bachelor's (B.B.A.) and master's degree (M.S.A.). As a senior, the Michigan product played in all 34 rounds for the Green and White, turning in an average of 73.56 per round and scoring par-or-better for nine total rounds. Multer was named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week, March 22, following a personal-best score of 204 (69-66-69) including his career-best round of 66 at the GCU Invitational.
A communication major, Rodes earned his second Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar award holding a 3.69 GPA. A Second Team All-MAC selection and Academic All-MAC honoree, as well as two-time MAC Golfer of the Week (Sept. 26, 2016 and March 2, 2017) this season, Rodes finished his career with the program's best single-season scoring average of 72.1. This season he competed in 11 events, posting 17 rounds of par-or-better and seven top 10 finishes, including four inside the top five spots.
Ross, a junior with a 3.59 grade point average in business administration, reeled in the honor for the first time in his career. He had a season average of 73.59 strokes per round. During the season, he earned a trio of top-10 showings including third-place finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate where he posted six birdies and an eagle on the way to his career-low of 64.
Switzerland native, Weppernig, achieved a 3.70 GPA while majoring in finance to come away with the honro fro the second time in his career. The senior played in 22 rounds for the Green and White this season with an average of 75.36 strokes per round, and a season-low of 71 in the final round of the Loyola Intercollegiate. Weppernig finished off the season tying for 26th at the MAC Championships with a total score of 306 (75-75-78-78).
