AUSTIN, Texas (EMUEagles.com) -
For the first time in her career, Eastern Michigan University women's track and field junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) earned Second Team Academic All-American honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today, June 23.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

McDermitt becomes the 28th EMU student-athlete to receive the honor, and this marks the first time that an EMU women's track and field student-athlete has received the award. This season marks the ninth time in Eastern history that multiple student-athletes earned the award in the same year, as redshirt senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee) of the men's track and field team also received the honor.

McDermitt found plenty of success in the cross country season, as well as both the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. Back in November, the Davison, Mich. native reeled in All-American honors at the NCAA Cross Country Championships after finishing 24th in 20:14.60. She was just the second Eagle to earn All-American status in program history and the first since 1987.

The indoor season saw McDermitt secure a spot in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, where she took part in the 5000m. There, she clocked in at 15:43.95, which was a program record, to finish sixth, giving her First Team All-American status yet again. The junior became just the eighth Eagle in EMU history to receive first team accolades.

Most recently in the outdoor season, McDermitt was named First Team All-MAC after winning the 10000m MAC title in 34:07.31. She wrapped up her season at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, June 8, taking 21st in the 10000m to earn Honorable Mention All-American honors. In total, McDermitt was named MAC Runner of the Week four times during the cross country season, while also earning MAC Track Athlete of the Week honors three times and MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week twice.
