The junior earns the award for the second straight season
AUSTIN, Tex. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University baseball junior Brennan Williams (Commerce Township, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) was named to the Academic All-District Baseball Team in District Five by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), May 4. It is the second Academic All-District honor of Williams' career, as he earned the award last season as well.
The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The fifth district is the geographical region of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio, and is comprised of 11 players. To be eligible for Academic All-American consideration, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have reached sophomore standing.
Williams currently leads the team in on base percentage with a .390 rate, while ranking third in batting average (.280), fourth in walks, (20) and fifth in RBIs (15), runs (22), and slugging (.380). He had a four-hit game against Ohio, April 15, and a four-RBI game the next day, April 16. In that contest, he had a walk-off single to clinch a 12-11 win and a sweep of the Bobcats to get EMU off to a 7-2 start in MAC play. Williams currently holds a 3.70 GPA in supply chain management.
Eastern returns home and resumes MAC play this weekend with a three-game series against conference leader Kent State University. The series against the Golden Flashes gets underway with a 6 p.m. first pitch, Friday, May 5.
