Softball Sees 10 Earn Academic All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University softball team saw 10 of its student-athletes honored Tuesday, May 23, as the Mid-American Conference released its Academic All-MAC team. The Eagles' 10 selections ranked tied for second-most in the league.
A total of 89 student-athletes made the cut, with Northern Illinois and Western Michigan leading the way with 11 selections each, while Eastern and Kent State added 10 honorees apiece.
Earning the honor for EMU were: seniors Michelle Kriegshauser (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln Way Central), Abbie Minsker (Howell, Mich.-Hartland), and Taylor Wagner (Marshalltown, Iowa-Marshalltown), juniors Haley Hostetler (New Haven, Ind.-Woodlan), Brandice Olmos (Riverside, Calif.-Grand Terrace), Angel Schilke (Saline, Mich.-Saline), and Trisha Trujillo (Whittier, Calif.-California), and sophomores Olivia Logan (Riverview, Mich.-Riverview), Nicolle Miranda (Wilmington, Calif.-Port of Los Angeles), and Alex Peters (Oscoda, Mich.-Alpena). Kriegshauser, Minsker, Hostetler, Olmos, Schilke, and Trujillo reel in the honor for the second time, while Wagner, Logan, Miranda, and Peters garnered the distinction for the first time.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
A speech language pathology graduate, Kriegshauser owns a 3.59 GPA, and adds the academic award to her resume. A Second Team All-MAC selection, Kriegshauser put together one of the best seasons in program history. She tied the program record with 17 doubles, while boasting the 10th-best batting average in single season laurels at .375. Her 37 runs scored were sixth-most in EMU history, in addition to being a career-best, while her nine home runs ranked tied for 10th most. She is the only Eagle to ever register 200+ hits, 100+ runs, and 100+ RBI's in their career, while the senior outfielder also holds the program records in career batting average (.361), doubles (57), and slugging percentage (.624). In addition to holding the program standard in each of the three categories, she is ranked tied for second in league laurels in doubles, fifth in slugging percentage, and 18th in batting average. Kriegshauser also ranks inside EMU's top-10 in home runs (2nd-29), hits (t2nd-211), runs (5th-110), and RBI's (6th-105).
Minsker, who graduated with a degree in chemistry and owned a 3.71 GPA, registered two wins in her final season donning the Green and White, while working to a career-best 4.45 ERA in the circle and striking out 21. She tossed one complete game and one shutout, and added a save in 45.2 innings of work.
Wagner, an elementary education major with a 3.38 grade point average, put together a career year in 2017. The Marshalltown, Iowa native hit a career-best .345 at the plate, cranking out a career-high 50 hits, including seven doubles, one triple, and one home run.
Hostetler, who maintains a 3.60 grade point average while studying elementary education, moved from shortstop to centerfield in 2017. One of a trio of EMU's stout outfielders, Hostetler threw out a team-high nine baserunners and posted a career-best fielding percentage in her first season patrolling the grass. Starting all 51 games, Hostetler tallied 27 hits and drove in seven.
Olmos, a criminology major with a 3.82 grade point average, played in all 51 games for the Eagles. The Riverside, Calif. native set career-highs in batting average (.285), hits (41), and home runs (2).
A chemistry major boasting a 3.40 GPA, Schilke was one of EMU's top baserunners. Appearing in 36 games, Schilke scored 12 runs, while swiping five bases.
Trujillo was one of the Eagles' top hurlers in the circle this season, setting a career-high with eight wins in 36 appearances. Tossing a career-high 112.1 innings, Trujillo fanned 41, while working to a career-low in ERA (3.99). The Whittier, Calif. product is a health administration major, carrying a 3.20 grade point average.
In her second season as Eastern's starting first baseman, Logan tied a career-best with 36 hits, including three doubles and a home run. She added 11 runs, 16 RBI's, and ranked third on the team with 12 walks. The Riverview, Mich. native holds a 3.73 GPA as a dietetics major.
Miranda, a product development major with a 3.30 grade point average, appeared in 33 games for the Green and White. Making 16 starts in the circle, Miranda notched six wins and finished the season with a 4.71 earned run average. She recorded seven complete games and two shutouts, and struck out 62 over 130.2 innings.
A chemistry major that boasts a 3.95 GPA, Peters was one of EMU's speediest on the base paths. Appearing in 29 games, Peters posted a career-best 13 runs, while swiping a squad-best seven stolen bases.
The Eagles' season came to a close with a 17-34 overall record, including a 3-20 mark in MAC play.
