Fink Punches Ticket to NCAA Championships on Day Two of Regionals

EMU had three total competitors on day two in Lexington
NCAA East Regional Day Two Results
LEXINGTON, KY. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team continued action at the NCAA East Regional today, May 26, in Lexington, Ky, with three more competitors. Day two saw redshirt senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio – Maumee) punch his ticket to the upcoming NCAA Championships after claiming seventh in the 3000m steeplechase.
Day one began in the 200m dash, where junior Leighton Antonio (Hudson, Ohio – Hudson) was making his EMU regionals debut. Antonio finished seventh in his heat, clocking in at 21.40 to take home 41st overall. The Hudson, Ohio native's time was also just .12 seconds off of his personal-best from this season.
Meanwhile, a pair of Eagles closed out the second day of competition in the 3000m steeplechase. For the third time in his career, Fink qualified to the NCAA Championships, as the Maumee, Ohio native walked away with a top-12 finish in the event. Specifically, Fink finished second in the third heat, which was good for seventh overall after clocking in at a season-best 8:44.20.
Also taking part in the race was redshirt junior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland), who was competing at the NCAA East Regional for the second time in his career. Andresson had an impressive performance as well, claiming eighth in the second heat, finishing 18th overall in a career-best 8:54.75.
The Green and White wrap up the NCAA East Regional tomorrow, May 26, with one high jumper at 6 p.m. and one distance runner in the 5000m at 8:45 p.m.
