YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - For the first time in her career, Eastern Michigan University women's track and field junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) earned Academic All-District First Team honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). McDermitt represented one of five Mid-American Conference award winners that earned first team honors.
McDermitt found plenty of success in the cross country season, as well as both the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. Back in November, the Davison, Mich. native reeled in All-American honors at the NCAA Cross Country Championships after finishing 24th in 20:14.60. She is just the second Eagle to earn All-American status in program history and the first since 1987.
The indoor season saw McDermitt secure a spot in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, where she took part in the 5000m. There, she clocked in at 15:43.95, which was a program record, to finish sixth, giving her First Team All-American status yet again. The junior became just the eighth Eagle in EMU history to receive first team accolades.
Most recently in the outdoor season, McDermitt was named First Team All-MAC after winning the 10000m MAC title in 34:07.31. In total, McDermitt was named MAC Runner of the Week four times during the cross country season, while also earning MAC Track Athlete of the Week honors three times and MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week twice.
McDermitt continues her outdoor season today, May 25, at the NCAA East Regional in Lexington, Ky., where she will race in the 10000m at 9 p.m.
