NCAA East Regional Meet Central

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -
The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team will send six Eagles to compete at the NCAA East Regional, May 25-27, on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. Eastern will be represented by one sprinter, three distance runners, one pole vaulter, and one jumper.

Last year's NCAA East Regional saw seven Eagles compete. Then-sophomore Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. - Chippewa Valley) qualified to the quarterfinals in the 1500m run after posting a personal-best time of 4:19.74 in the prelims. Ultimately, Cizmas nabbed 16th in the quarterfinals, narrowly missing a berth to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Then-senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - University of Leuven) qualified to the national championships in the 3000m steeplechase, taking third in the event after clocking in at 9:58.61. Finally, then-sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) and then-junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) each earned a championship spot in the 5000m, with McDermitt taking 10th and Bogdanova claiming 11th, respectively.

Two Eagles will be making their NCAA East Regional debut this week, as junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. - Hempfield Area) will head to the meet for the first time and take part in the 200m dash, while sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community) is slated to compete in the 1500m run.

Bogdanova qualified to the meet for the second time, as the Kazan, Russia native will compete in the 5000m run for the second straight season. Also earning a spot in the regionals for the second time is senior Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio - Fairmont), who will be competing in the pole vault.

Finally, McDermitt will head to the event for the third time in her career, this time around competing in the 10000m. Additionally, junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) also heads to the NCAA East Regional for the third time to compete in the triple jump.

The NCAA East Regional can be followed from home through both live results and a live stream of each day of competition. Links to each can be found on the men's track and field schedule page of EMUEagles.com.

The meet is slated to kick off on Thursday, May 25, as Uy will be the first EMU competitor with the pole vault at 4:30 p.m. Meyers will begin just an hour later, as the 1500m is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., while McDermitt will round out day one with the 10000m at 9 p.m. Day two picks up at 7:30 p.m. with Jones and the women's 200m, and the final day of competition, May 27, features Dreimane in the triple jump at 3 p.m. and Bogdanova in the 5000m at 8:05 p.m. For more information on the NCAA East Regional, including a complete schedule, please click here.
