Eagles Gear Up for NCAA East Regional

Seven Eagles will travel to Lexington to try and earn an NCAA Championships spot
NCAA East Regional Meet Central
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The postseason continues for the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team, as seven Eagles head to the NCAA East Regional, May 25-27, on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. The Green and White will have one sprinter, three distance runners, one jumper, and two throwers in attendance against the some of the top competitors in the nation.
Last season's meet featured nine Green and White competitors. Then-junior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio - Findlay) took home a 17th-place finish in the 400m dash quarterfinals with a mark of 46.54 seconds, while then-redshirt sophomore Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - Mountain Ridge) nabbed 25th in the 10000m run semifinals. The higlight of the meet, however, came from then-redshirt junior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee), who qualified to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 3000m steepelchase. Fink clocked in with a career-best time of 8:40.60, which was the fifth-best time in program history, to secure an eighth-place finish.
This year, three Eagles will be making their NCAA East Regional debut. Junior Leighton Antonio (Hudson, Ohio - Hudson) will take part in the 200m dash, while redshirt junior Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium - Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven) snagged a spot in the 5000m. Rounding out the first-timers is sophomore Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio - Bishop Hartley), who will take part in both the long jump and the high jump.
Three other EMU competitors will be heading to the meet for the second time. Andresson will once again take part in the competition, this time around competing in the 3000m steepechase. Redshirt senior Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio - Sandusky) qualified in the hammer throw for the second straight season, and sophomore Derek Ziegenfuss (Allentown, Pa. - Parkland) qualified in the javelin once again. Finally, Fink will head to the meet for the fourth time in his career, taking part in the 3000m steeplechase along with Andresson.
