Eagles Send Six Student-Athletes to NCAA East Regional

EMU will be competing in six events at the meet
NCAA East Regional Qualifiers
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team had six Eagles qualify to the upcoming NCAA East Regional, May 25-27, in Lexington, Ky. The six participants will each be competing in a different event against some of the nation's best.
In order to qualify for the NCAA East Regional, an individual must be among the top 48 declared student-athletes in their respective events. For each relay event, the top 24 declared relay teams are accepted into the competition.
Qualifying to the NCAA East Regional for EMU was junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. - Hempfield Area), sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community), senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83), junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison), senior Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio - Fairmont), and junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1).
This marks the third time that McDermitt and Dreimane will take part in the event, while it is the second appearance for Bogdanova and Uy. Additionally, it will be the first time that Jones and Meyers have secured a pot at the regional competition.
Leading the way is Jones, who nabbed a spot in the 200m dash. Jones enters the meet with the No. 41 seed after posting a season-best time of 23.60 seconds at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
In the 1500m, Meyers secured 42ndsporting a season-best time of 4:32.48, which was set at the Gina Relays.
Bogdanova will be competing in the 5000m run, marking the second time that she has qualified to the meet in her career. The Kazan, Russia native enters in the top-10 of the East, specifically ranking seventh in the 5000m based on her time of 15:54.94 from the Stanford Invitational.
McDermitt rounds out the EMU distance qualifiers, as she currently sits as the No. 7 seed in the 10000m with a season-best time of 33:37.37 from the Stanford Invitational.
Uy snuck into the meet as well, securing the final spot in the pole vault. Entering 48th, Uy's season-best mark of 4.00 meters/ 13 feet 1.5-inches came at the Toledo Invite.
Finally, Dreimane is slated to compete in the triple jump, entering the meet as the No. 44 seed following her mark of 12.63 meters/ 41 feet 5.25-inches from the conference championships.
Redshirt senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - University of Leuven) also would have earned a spot in the event for the third time in her career, but the Gits, Belgium native will not be attending the meet, as she heads back to Belgium. Gallein would have qualified once again in the 3000m steeplechase, with her season-best time of 10:25.31 from the MAC Championships giving her the No. 41 seed.
