The Great Lakes Shootout will be held at Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Recent Eastern Michigan University women's golf graduate Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) will try to make some history as she will take part in the Great Lakes Shootout Tuesday, May 16, for a chance to earn an exemption to play in the LPGA Volvik Championship.
The Great Lakes Shootout will be held at Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor. The format will be nine holes of stroke play followed by a three-hole elimination competition for the one tournament exemption playing spot. The top four scores from the stroke play will advance to the hole-by-hole elimination on holes 16, 17 and 18.
The golfers will tee it up for the nine-hole stroke play at 11 a.m., with the three-hole elimination starting at approximately 1 p.m.
Murphy wrapped up a sensational EMU career, as she was selected Second Team All-Mid-American Conference for the third time. She joined Darby Peters (2009-12) as the only student-athletes in school history to grab all-conference honors in each of their four years playing.
Murphy posted an average of 75.04 strokes per round in 2016-17, the second lowest in program history. Overall, she had three top-10 finishes this season and 11 in her career. Ranked 440th nationally by Golfweek, Murphy had a season low of 69 in the final round of the Rocket Classic. She added a runner-up finish with a score of 219 (75-75-69) at the Rocket Classic and a second-place tie at the Kzoo Classic with a 222 (73-78-71) score.
The LPGA Volvik Championship will be held at the Travis Pointe Country Club from May 25-28.
