EMU Leads the Way as Five Golfers Selected Academic All-MAC

Breault, Multer, Rodes, Ross, and Weppernig announced to the All-MAC Academic team

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University golf team saw five Eagles selected to the 2017 Mid-American Conference All-Academic team, as Beau Breault (Harltland, Mich.-Hartland), Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview), Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth), Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Highland Secondary), and Philippee Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern) received the honor. For Breault, Multer, and Weppernig it was the first time they were named to the Academic All-MAC team, whereas Ross and Rodes earned the honor for the second and third times, respectively.

EMU led the conference with five Eagles named to the 21 student-athlete team, closely followed by Akron, Ball State, and Toledo with three honorees each.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.

Beault, a finance major holds a 3.93 cumulative GPA. The sophomore is ranked 23rd in program history for best scoring average of 73.9, while posting the 19th lowest scoring average in the MAC this season. During his 2016-17 campaign, he took part in 11 tournaments, of which he had two top ten finishes and 12 rounds that were par-or-better.

Multer maintained a 3.83 GPA in the Accounting 150 hour program, a program which earns him both a bachelor's (B.B.A.) and Master's (M.S.A) degree in Accounting. During his senior campaign, the Michigan native competed in all 34 rounds for EMU, posting an average of 73.56 per round and scoring par-or-better for nine total rounds. He earned MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week, March 22, following his personal-best score of 204 (69-66-69) including his career-best round of 66 at the GCU Invitational.

A communication major, Rodes earned his Academic All-MAC position holding a 3.69 GPA. The Michigan senior, was also recognized for Second Team All-MAC, as well as two-time MAC Golfer of the Week (Sept. 26, 2016 and March 2, 2017) this season. Rodes finished his career with the program's best single-season scoring average of 72.1 and ranked 365th overall according to Golfweek rankings. This season he competed in 11 events, posting 17 rounds of par-or-better and seven top 10 finishes, including four inside the top five spots.

Ross, a junior with a 3.59 grade point average in Business Administration, had a season average of 73.59 strokes per rounds. During the season, he earned a trio of top 10 showings including third-place finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate where he posted six birdies and an eagle on the way to his career-low of 64. The Canadian native is ranked 727nd according to the Golfweek rankings.

Switzerland native, Weppernig, achieved a 3.70 GPA while majoring in finance. The senior played in 22 rounds for the Eagles this season with an average of 75.36 strokes per round, and a season-low of 71 in the final round of the Loyola Intercollegiate. Weppernig finished off the season tying for 26th at the MAC Championships with a total score of 306 (75-75-78-78).
