YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - After splitting up for a trio of meets last week, the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team will remain together for the Jesse Owens Invitational, April 21-22, in Columbus, Ohio. The Green and White look to build on some strong performances from last week with the Mid-American Conference Championships less than a month away.

Last week at the Mt. SAC Relays, April 14, sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community) won the 5000m run open with a career-best time of 16:27.28. Additionally, junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) secured 14th in the 5000m run elite invite, clocking in with a personal-best time of 15:58.05.

Moving to the Ball State Challenge, April 14-15, sophomore Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. - Slidell) took home second in the 100m dash with a career-best time of 11.76 seconds, while junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. - Hempfield Area) nabbed second in the 200m dash with a personal-best time of 23.93 seconds. The trend continued in the 400m dash, as freshman Micah Johnston took home another silver with a career-best time of 57.34 seconds. 

EMU also won the 4x400m relay in 3:44.01 and took second in the 4x100m relay in 45.97 seconds. Senior Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio - Fairmont) finished atop the podium in the pole vault with a mark of 3.85 meters/ 12 feet 7.5-inches, and junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) won the triple jump with a mark of 12.50 meters/ 41 feet 0.25-inches. Finally, freshman Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill. - Joliet West) secured the silver in the javelin throw, posting a career-best mark of 36.82 meters/ 120 feet 10-inches.

Last year at the Jesse Owens Invite, senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) secured second in the 1500m run with a then career-best time of 4:21.22, while sophomore Jada Taylor (Neptune, N.J. - Neptune) set a program record in the discus with a throw of 43.98 meters/ 144 feet 3.5-inches. On day two, Dreimane turned in a third-place finish in the long jump, and senior Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich. - Grand Rapids Christian) won the pole vault with a personal-best mark of 4.10 meters/ 13 feet 5.25-inches.

The Jesse Owens Invite will begin on Friday, April 21, with the women's hammer throw at 2 p.m., while day one on the track starts at 7 p.m. with the women's 5000m run.
