CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Junior Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J. - Holmdel) of the Eastern Michigan University women's gymnastics team was named the MAC Women's Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday, March 8. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Valentin led the Eagles to their best team total of the season in West Virginia, as the Green and White totaled a 196.225 in Morgantown. The junior made history on bars, tying the program record with a 9.950 after repeatedly hitting the 9.925 mark throughout the season. Valentin also made her return to vault, scoring a 9.80 after not competing on the event over the last few weeks. Additionally, the Holmdel, N.J. native scored a 9.85 on beam to help EMU score a 49.300 on the event, the second-best beam total in the EMU record books.

This marks the third time in her career that Valentin, who holds a 3.93 grade point average in biology, has earned the award, as she was named Scholar Athlete of the Week earlier this year, along with once last season. Valentin and the Eagles conclude the regular season this weekend, hosting Bowling Green for Senior Night, Saturday, March 11, at 7 p.m.
