YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team will be represented by junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison) at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend, March 10-11, in College Station, Texas. McDermitt enters the championships as the No. 6 seed in the 5000m after posting an incredible regular season time of 15:50.16 at the Iowa State Classic, Feb. 10. That mark was not only the best of her career, but also the top time in the EMU record books. The Davison, Mich. native will be competing against 15 of the top distance runners in the nation. The teams represented in the race include Penn State, Michigan, Missouri, Notre Dame, Furman, Eastern Michigan, Oregon, Harvard, Utah, Portland, UCF, Providence, NC State, New Mexico, Butler, and Colorado.
The last time an Eagle qualified to the NCAA Indoor Championships was back in 2014 when Sarah Chauchard competed in the pentathlon. Chauchard had an excellent performance, finishing sixth overall with 4229 points, which was both a career-best and an EMU record. She had her best performance in the shot put, winning the event with a throw of 13.32 meters/ 43 feet 8.5-inches. Based on her finish, she was awarded First Team All-American honors.
The NCAA Championships are scheduled to begin Friday, March 10, with McDermitt's race taking place at 8 p.m. CT. For more information on the event, please click here.
