CARBONDALE, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) –
A title on the 1-meter dive highlighted night two of competition at the Mid-American Conference Championships for the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team, March 2. The Eagles currently sit in sole possession of third place with 230 points, trailing Missouri State University (248) and the University at Buffalo (237.5).

Three Eagles competing in the 500 Freestyle led off the evening session for the Green and White. Senior Kyle Lichtenberg (Clarkston, Mich.) paced the effort, claiming a third-place finish, while freshman Alex Arrieta (Miami, Fla.-Doral Academy Center) took sixth. Lichtenberg clocked in with a season-best tim of 4:23.56, while Arrieta posted a career-best time of 4:28.29. Senior Chris Cutter (Fishers, Ind.-Fishers) rounded out the trio, placing 14th.

In the 200 IM, a group of sophomores paved the way to a big scoring for Eastern. Jake Tyson (Ipswich, England-Northgate) touched in with a time of 1:47.09, the third-fastest mark in EMU annals, as well as a career-best, to claim fourth. Ricky Perez (Greenfield, Wis.-Greenfield) won the consolation heat with a time of 1:48.61, the fourth-best time in Eastern Michigan laurels. Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary) added a 12th-place time, while senior Cole Bateman (Hutchinson, Minn.-Hutchinson) improved upon his prelim time to claim 14th.

Freshman Mark Krusinski (Brecksville, Ohio-Brecksville Broadview Heights) was the lone Eagle to compete in the finals heats of the 50 Freestyle, coming away with a 12th-place finish.

Turning its focus to the springboard, Eastern Michigan showed why it is one of the deepest squads in the country. All six Eagles finished inside the top-15, while the Green and White secured four of the top-six spots. Senior Alex Chan (Toronto, Ontario-Neil McNeil Catholic Secondary) defended his title, picking up the second MAC title of his career with a score of 362.85. Sophomore Tom Gillis (Halifax, Nova Scotia-Citadel) reeled in a third-place finish with 313.05 points, while senior Dan Gironza (New Hudson, Mich.-South Lyon) also broke the 300-point barrier, scoring 303.90. Junior Peter Rusenas (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central) rounded out the championship finalists with a sixth-place score. In the consolation round, freshman Noah Galluzzo (Mexico, N.Y.) and sophomore Nicholas Fox (Covington, Ky.-Scott) finished 11th and 15th, respectively.

Eastern completed the day with a fifth-place finish in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:21.85.
