Murphy Paces Eagles on Day One of 3M Augusta Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. (EMUEagles.com) - After day one of play at the 3M Augusta Invitational, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team sits in 14-place after posting a 311 on the par 72, 6,248-yard Forest Hills Golf Club course.
Senior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) carded a 74, coming in two-over par on the day to lead the Green and White. Murphy's round one score comes in nine stroke off the pace set by tournament leader, Jiwon Jeon (Daytona State College). Jeon torched the field with a seven-under 65.
Junior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) finished the day a shot behind Murphy, posting a 75, and is currently tied for 28th. Freshman Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) is in a tie for 39th after a round of 76. Rounding out the scoring for EMU was sophomores Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) and Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) who posted rounds of 76 and 89, respectively.
EMU returns to the course for second round action Saturday, March 18. The Eagles will be paired with James Madison with tee time beginning at 10:45 a.m.
