CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Mid-American Conference announced today, March 15, that juniors Catie Conrad (Brighton, Mich. - Brighton) and Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J. - Holmdel) were named to the All-MAC teams based on their performance throughout the season. Specifically, Valentin earned first team honors, while Conrad was named to the second team.
Valentin has now secured All-MAC honors in each of her three seasons with the Eagles, as she earned second team honors as a freshman before being named first team last season. The junior has had an incredible season for the Eagles, especially on bars. Valentin now ties for the top-spot in the EMU record books on bars after scoring a career-high 9.950 on the road at West Virginia. She has also notched a 9.925 on five seperate occasions this season, cementing her among the nation's best, as the junior currently ranks No. 6 in the country on the event. Not only has Valentin been successful on bars, but she has also had an excellent season on beam. In fact, Valentin set a career-high on the event this year with a 9.90. In total, the Holmdel, N.J. native has scored a 9.80-or-better on beam nine times this year, including her current streak of six scores of 9.85-or-greater. This season, Valentin was named MAC Specialist of the Week three times, while also securing MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week twice.
For the second time in her career, Conrad secured Second Team All-MAC honors, as she also received the award last season. Conrad has been a workhorse for the Eagles this season, regularly competing in three or four events throughout the entire year. This season, Conrad notched personal-best scores of 9.900 on both bars and beam, while also falling just short of her career-best in the all-around with a 39.300. Conrad ranks among the MAC's best on bars and beam, sitting third and eighth, respectively, while also holding No. 42 in the nation on bars. Finally, the junior was also named MAC Gymnast of the Week on two occasions.
With the regular season now complete, the Eagles will make the short trip south to Bowling Green, Ohio for the MAC Championships, Saturday, March 18. After winning the event last season for the second time in program history, Eastern will look to defend its title within the Stroh Center.
