Alexis Mitcheltree & Delaney Duncan Qualify for NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) — On the heels of outstanding performances at the Mid-American Conference Championships that helped the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team to a second-place finish, senior Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area) and sophomore Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) were named NCAA qualifiers, March 1. The NCAA's announcement sees Duncan earn a trip to the national meet for the second time in as many years, while Mitcheltree qualifies for the first time in her career.
The duo marks the first time EMU has had multiple swimmers earn trips to the NCAA Championships in program history.
Qualifying in the 100 Breaststroke, Duncan looks to improve upon her 14th-place finish at last season's NCAA Championships that garnered All-American Honorable Mention. Duncan punched her ticket to the national meet with a season-best time of 59.89 in the 100 Breast en route to her second individual MAC Championship. While there, Duncan will also compete in the 200 Breast, where she finished 54th overall at last year's championships. Since then, the Galesburg, Ill. native has dropped nearly half a second from her time, touching in with a career-best mark of 2:14.01 at the MAC Championships last week.
Mitcheltree caps her incredible EMU career with her first trip to the NCAA Championships after taking home gold in the 100 Backstroke at the MAC Championships. the Moon Twp., Pa product holds a career-best time of 52.57, the fastest in Eastern Michigan laurels, which she posted at last week's conference meet. Mitcheltree will also swim in the 200 Backstroke, another event in which she holds the EMU program record with a time of 1:56.74.
The diving field for the NCAA Championships will be released following the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, March 10-11.
