Eagles Turn in Season-Bests on Day One of MAC Championships

CARBONDALE, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team began its chase for its third consecutive Mid-American Conference Championship, Wednesday night, March 1. EMU posted a pair of top-five relay finishes and are currently tied for third-place with 62 team points.
Missouri State and Buffalo are tied for first with 72 points, followed by EMU and Southern Illinois with 62 points apiece. Miami ranks fifth with 60 points, while Evansville and Ball State round out the standings with 50 points each.
Eastern Michigan turned in a season-best time of 1:30.23 in the 200 Medley Relay, claiming fifth-place in the race, as sophomore Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary), freshman Aaron Hendry (Evans, Ga.-Evans), sophomore Connor Johnson (Fort Bragg, N.C.-Terry Sanford), and senior Cole Bateman (Hutchinson, Minn.-Hutchinson) teamed up to lead the Eagles.
In the second and final race of the evening, the Eagles matched their seeded time with a second-place finish in the 800 Freestyle Relay. Sophomore Jake Tyson (Ipswich, England-Northgate) combined with fellow sophomore JF Murphy (Montreal, Quebec-Sainte Anne), freshman Alex Arrieta (Miami, Fla.-Doral Academy), and junior Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory) combined for EMU's season-best time of 6:34.03.
The Green and White return to competition tomorrow, March 2, for the second day of the MAC Championships. The prelims session gets underway at 12 p.m., while finals are set for 8 p.m.
