Raymond Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. (EMUEagles.com) - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today, Feb. 9, that Eastern Michigan University men's cross country senior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. - Mason) earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
In order to qualify for the honor, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet.
Raymond led the Eagles throughout the season, ultimately qualifying to the NCAA Championships for the second straight year with an at-large bid after taking fifth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. At the national championships, Raymond brought home 31st with a time of 30:18.9, earning All-American honors. He also won his second consecutive individual title at the MAC Championships, taking first in 25:10.0. Raymond made his season debut at the Notre Dame Invite, Sept. 30, running to a 15th-place finish in 24:01.9.
In addition to being a First Team All-MAC honoree, Raymond was also named all-region, in addition to earning MAC Runner of the Week honors twice. The Erie, Mich. native maintains a 3.61 GPA while majoring in art, and was named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week after the MAC Championships.
In total, there were 265 athletes named USTFCCCA All-Academic, with 168 of them being women, while 97 were men.
Additionally, the team as a whole was also named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. The Eagles, who maintained a team GPA of 3.32, were one of 189 men's teams to earn the honor, and one of eight men's MAC teams.
