Eagles Conclude Day One in South Bend and Akron

SOUTH BEND, Ind. & AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team wrapped up day one of the Meyo Invitational and the Akron Invitational today, Feb. 3, in South Bend, Ind. and Akron, Ohio.
Sophomore Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. – Slidell) and freshman Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio – West Geauga) both turned in solid races in the 60m dash to kick off a solid day one showing at the Meyo Invitational for the Eagles. Harris clocked in at 7.64 seconds to nab 12th and earn a spot in the semifinals, while Mason finished 24th in 7.66 to also punch her ticket to the semifinals tomorrow.
Redshirt sophomore Allie Knoll (Warren, Mich. – Warren Mott) had a career day in the 5000m run, crossing the finish line in 17:09.22 to take 24th. Knoll's time was a personal-best by nearly an entire minute, as her previous best was 18:02.82, in addition to also ranking as the ninth-best mark in program history.
The Eagles also fielded a team in the distance medley relay, as the group of junior Claire Mesa (Rockford, Ill. – Rockford Lutheran), senior Dayna Hurd (Carson, Calif. – Carson), and juniors Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio – Circleville) and Danielle Bentzley (Birmingham, Mich. – Seaholm) brought home 16th-place with a time of 12:06.78.
A pair of hurdlers took part in the 60m hurdles, with junior Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J. – Toms River North) claiming 33rd with a time of 8.83 seconds. Hurd also ran in the event, crossing the finish line in 9.02 to take 45th. Finally, junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) competed in the long jump, bringing home eighth with a jump of 5.77 meters/ 18 feet 11.25-inches.
Moving to the Akron Invitational, a pair of throwers competed in the discus throw. Senior Megan Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio – Woodmoore) and sophomore Jada Taylor (Neptune, N.J. – Neptune) finished eighth and ninth in the event, respectively. Pendleton notched a mark of 39.37 meters/ 129 feet 2-inches, while Taylor was just behind at 37.25 meters/ 122 feet 2-inches.
The Eagles wrap up day two of the Meyo Invitational and the Akron Invitational tomorrow, Feb. 4. The Meyo Invite can be viewed live through Watch ESPN from 2-4 p.m., while both meets can also be followed with live results.
