The Eagles were unable to pickup a win at Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team traveled to Louisville, Ky. to square off with the University of Louisville Friday, Feb. 3. The Eagles (1-5) dropped a 7-0 decision at the Cardinals' (5-0) home court, the Base-Rudd Tennis Center.

The Green and White first loss the doubles point after Ani Gogvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia-Khikani) and Maria Paula Ribero (Bucaramanga, Colombia) fell, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles, while Renu Sharma (Fardabad, India) and Anna Veleva (Sofia, Bulgaria) dropped the No. 3 doubles match by an identical score. EMU's No. 1 duo of Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic-Sport and Management School) and Marie Mayerova (Krmelin, Czech Republic) did not finish their match but were trailing 5-4 when play stalled.

In singles play, it was Mayerova who had the most success at No. 1. She took on Louisville's Aleksandra Mally but fell in two sets, 6-3, 7-6 (8-3), after taking Mally to a second set tiebreaker. The rest of the Eagles fell in straight sets at No. 2 through No. 6, saddling EMU with the 7-0 loss.

"Overall we had a few close matches out there," said Head Coach Ryan Ray. We got out to quick leads in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, but Louisville stormed back. We had some close sets we couldn't finish on top in singles, and that is where we need to improve. We will get back to work this week."
