CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Mid-American Conference announced today, Feb. 28, that the junior pair of Catie Conrad (Brighton, Mich. - Brighton) and Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J. - Holmdel) were named MAC Gymnast and Specialist of the Week, respectively. This marks Conrad's second time winning the award, while it is the third time Valentin received the honor.
Conrad competed all-around in a pair of meets against Towson and Ball State last week, helping the Eagles to scores of 196.000 and 195.950, their top two marks of the season. Against Towson, Conrad scored a 9.65 on vault to place ninth, after which she tied her career-best on bars with a 9.90 to take second. On beam, she took fourth with a 9.775, matching that score on floor with a seventh-place finish. Ultimately, she won the all-around, totaling a 39.100.
Against Ball State later in the week, Conrad had her best all-around meet of the year. Conrad finished third on each individual event, notching a 9.80 on vault, a 9.85 on bars, a 9.825 on beam, and a 9.825 on floor. Her all-around total of 39.300 was her best of the season and just behind her career-high of 39.350.
Valentin had an incredible week for the Eagles against Towson and Ball State. Against Towson, Valentin tied her career-best on bars with a 9.925 to win the event, while she also won beam with a 9.875, just off her career-best. Later in the week against Ball State, Valentin tied her personal-best on bars again with another 9.925 to claim gold once more, as well as silver on beam with a 9.85.
Conrad, Valentin, and the Eagles travel down to West Virginia this weekend for the team's final road meet of the season. Eastern will square off with the Mountaineers, as well as George Washington and Pittsburgh, Sunday, March 5, at 2 p.m.
