Kriegshauser picked up the honor for the third time in her career
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — One day after leading the Eastern Michigan University softball team to a walk-off win, senior Michelle Kriegshauser (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln Way Central) was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday, Feb. 27.
Kriegshauser was unstoppable for the Eagles last week, Feb. 23-26, leading EMU to a 3-3 mark over the six-game stretch, earning the third weekly MAC award of her career. Additionally, she is the first Eagle to earn the honor this season.
Kriegshauser nearly single handily beat Georgetown, Feb. 24, going for a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, with two home runs and seven RBIs. With two dingers, she became the first Eagle to hit two round-trippers in a game since Amanda Akles did so last season. Additionally, Kriegshauser tied the EMU single game record for runs batted in. She followed up that performance with a 2-for-3 showing in a 4-0 win over Brown. Then, on Eastern's final day of action, Kriegshauser added an RBI as the Eagles topped Stony Brook, 4-3.
In EMU's 5-4 extra-inning victory over Detroit Mercy, Kriegshauser came up clutch for the Eagles, smacking a two-run walk-off single down the left field line to secure the win, her third walk-off at bat of the season. The late game heroics highlighted another 4-for-4 effort at the plate. On the week, the New Lenox, Ill. native hit a blistering .500 with 10 hits, 10 RBIs, and five runs scored, while also boasting an .850 slugging percentage. Kriegshauser's big week also catapulted her up the EMU rankings, as she now sits 14th all-time in hits, seventh all-time in RBIs, tied for the program record in career doubles, and number one in career batting average.
Kriegshauser and the Eagles return to action next week, March 9-11, in Long Beach, Calif. at the Louisville Slugger Invitational.
