Senior Michelle Kriegshauser hit .857 for the day
Game #1: Eastern Michigan 8, Georgetown 9
Senior Michelle Kriegshauser (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln Way North) paced the Eagles' offensive efforts. Kriegshauser nearly single-handedly lifted EMU to a win. The senior went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with seven RBIs, two runs scored, two homers, and a walk. The New Lenox, Ill. native's seven runs driven in tied the program record, set by teammate Amanda Akles last season, while her four hits tied a career-high. Sophomore Lucy Lopez (Bakersfield, Calif.-Stockdale) also added a multi-hit effort, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
A bases loaded walk, sacrifice fly, and grand slam gave the Hoyas a six-run lead before the Eagles even had the opportunity to bat. The Hoyas added another run in the second, extending GU's lead to 7-0.
Eastern got a few back in the bottom half of the second, erupting for a four-run frame. Sophomore Olivia Logan (Riverview, Mich.-Riverview) reached on a dropped fly ball in the outfield, before junior Haley Hostetler's (New Haven, Ind.-Woodlan) dribbler was botched by the first baseman. With two on and one out, freshman Ariana Chretien (Commerce, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) found a gap in the outfield, lacing a duck snort double to drive in Logan. Moments later, senior Kriegshauser dug into the batter's box and belted a three-run homer over the left field fence, pulling Eastern within three, 7-4.
The score remained the same until the Hoyas plated two on three hits in the fifth. EMU responded with two runs on a bases-clearing double by none other than Kriegshauser. With the two-bagger, Kriegshauser registered the 44th double of her career, tying the EMU record.
From that point on, junior Trisha Trujillo (Whittier, Calif.-California) settled in, holding Georgetown in check for the rest of the game. Trujillo's work in the circle allowed the Green and White to mount a late comeback. After stranding a leadoff walk in the sixth, Kriegshauser blasted her second homer of the game to cut the deficit to one, 9-8, the closest the Eagles would get.
Game #2: Eastern Michigan 4, Brown 0
Upperclassmen paced the Eagles in a win over Brown in their second game of the day. In the circle, senior Abbie Minsker (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) went the distance, posting a complete game shutout, while also matching a career-high with seven strikeouts. At the plate, the duo of junior Brandice Olmos (Riverside, Calif.-Grand Terrace) and Kriegshauser was too much for the Bears to handle. Olmos went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Kriegshauser finished with two hits, two runs scored, and a walk.
Kriegshauser broke the game open with a single, and moved into second on a bunt by senior Taylor Wagner (Marshalltown, Iowa-Marshalltown). After a groundout allowed Kriegshauser to take third, Olmos singled to give Eastern an early, 1-0, edge.
With Minsker dealing, the Eagles added a run in the third. Brown threw the ball from base to base trying to get an out, playing right into the hands of Wagner and Kriegshauser. As Wagner coasted into second, the Bears lost focus of Kriegshauser, allowing her to cross the plate and double EMU's lead.
RBI singles by Chretien and sophomore Amanda Akles (La Habra, Calif.-La Habra) in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, pushed Eastern's advantage to 4-0.
Coming to bat for the final time, Brown ripped a single up the middle, before Minsker shut things down with a strikeout to finalize the victory.
EMU returns to action tomorrow, Feb. 25, with a single game at the EMU Madeira Beach Invitational. The Eagles will take on Columbia at 11 a.m.
