RIO VERDE, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team heads west to the Grand Canyon State to participate in the 15th Annual Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz., Feb. 24-26. This year's field will be comprised of 19 teams with four out of five individual scores counting toward the team total each day.
The 54-hole tournament, hosted by Western Michigan, runs from Friday through Sunday on the White Wing Course at Rio Verde Country Club. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
The event features eight Mid-American Conference programs: Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Ohio, and WMU.
The field also includes Arkansas State, Bradley, Central Arkansas, Illinois State, Little Rock, Missouri State, Northern Arizona, Seton Hall, UMKC, Wichita State, and Xavier.
The event was originally known as the East/West Rio Verde Invitational. Last season, the Eagles shot a three-round total of 900 (300-300-300) to finish tied with Bradley for fifth-place.
Senior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) will lead the lineup for the Eagles, followed by junior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne). In the No. 3 and 4 spots will be sophomores Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) and Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School), while freshman Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) will round out the lineup set to start on Friday, Feb. 24.
