Women's Swimming & Diving Begins Competition at MAC Championships

OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team began its chase for a Mid-American Conference title Wednesday night, Feb. 22, in Oxford, Ohio. The Eagles stand in third-place through two events.
The four-day meet kicked off with the 200 Medley Relay, where senior Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area), sophomores Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) and Michal Liberman (Rosh Haayin, Israel-Begin), and senior Sierra Wagner (Huntsville, Texas-Huntsville) teamed up for a second-place finish. The Green and White shaved nearly three seconds off their seeded time, turning in a season-best mark of 1:37.95, to edge out Buffalo.
In the 800 Freestyle Relay, the Eagles claimed third-place, outlasting Ohio in a tight final leg. Senior Mary Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) got EMU off to a solid start, before sophomore Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville), Wagner, and junior Sarah Dombkowski (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth) wrapped up the third-place finish. The Eagles clocked in just over a tenth of a second ahead of Ohio, turning in a time of 7:19.36.
Eastern Michigan returns to action tomorrow morning, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m.
