Makenzie Garringer Closes Out Her Career in Style, Earns MAC Weekly Honor

The senior earned the award for the first time in her career
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Senior swimmer Makenzie Garringer (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon) put on the best performance of her career at the Michigan First Chance Meet, Feb. 18-19, earning her Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week honors. Tuesday's league announcement marks the first of Garringer's career, closing out her EMU tenure on a high note.
Garringer wrapped up her Eastern Michigan career with an exclamation point, taking part in the 200 Individual Medley, 100 Butterfly, and 100 Freestyle. In the 200 IM, Garringer clocked in with a time of 2:09.06. She then touched in with a time of 57.42 in the 100 Fly to complete the first day of competition. The Napoleon, Ohio native swam in one race on Sunday, and made it count in a big way. Garringer touched in with a lifetime-best 52.33 in the 100 Freestyle, beating out swimmers from the University of Michigan and Michigan State University.
Garringer is the fifth Eagle to earn the award this season, joining fellow seniors Alexis Mitcheltree and Sierra Wagner, as well as freshman Brielle Johnston.
EMU now turns its focus to the MAC Championships, which begin tomorrow, Feb. 22, in Oxford, Ohio.
