Eastern Michigan will head to Southern California to take on three squads

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's tennis team returns to action this week, Feb. 21-24, when it takes on three squads from the Golden State in California. The Eagles (3-6) will first take on the University of California San Diego Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. PT before heading to San Diego State University Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the same time. Finally, the Green and White will take a day off before it travels to Fullerton, Calif. to take on Cal State Fullerton Friday, Feb. 24, at 1:30 p.m. PT.

The Eagles will start a new series with UC San Diego on Tuesday afternoon. It will be the first time that EMU will square off with the NCAA Division II opponent. The Tritons (5-0) are currently ranked 13th in the national rankings at the Division II level.

EMU and the Aztecs of San Diego State have a short, one match, history. The Eagles are 0-1 versus the Aztecs (3-6) in the all-time series. The only match between the two squads came back on March 2, 2010. In that match, the Green and White were able to walk away with one point as Xu Change defeated the No. 71 ranked Alicia Aguilar, 7-6, 4-6, 13-11, at No. 2 doubles, but EMU fell 6-1 overall.

The Eagles have met Cal State Fullerton on the tennis court three times over the series history. The Green and White own a 2-1 record versus the Titans. Most recently, EMU was on the wrong end of a 5-2 decision back on Feb. 26, 2015. In that match, current Eagle Anna Veleva (Sofia, Bulgaria) won her No. 6 singles match, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, while Daphne Friedrichs defeated CSUF's No. 4 singles opponent, 7-6, 6-4.
