The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team will wrap up the indoor season within the state, heading west to Allendale, Mich. for the GVSU Tune-Up, Friday, Feb. 17.  The meet will give the Eagles one final opportunity to compete before hosting the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships next week, Feb. 24-25.

Last week, Eastern had the majority of the team compete at the GVSU Big Meet, securing a third-place finish as a team with 42 points. Additionally, EMU had one distance runner compete at the Husky Classic on the west coast in Seattle, Wash.

In Allendale, junior Leighton Antonio (Hudson, Ohio – Hudson) had a strong day in the 60m dash invite, taking home fifth in the finals with a time of 6.93 seconds. Sophomore Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich. – Clinton) ran a strong 400m dash, clocking in at a career-best 48.13 seconds to take the silver.

Redshirt junior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland – Mountain Ridge) broke yet another Icelandic record, this time in the mile. Andresson brought home fourth-place in the race, posting a career-best time of 4:05.78. In the 3000m run, redshirt junior Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium - Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven) secured another fourth-place finish for EMU, clocking in with a personal-best time of 8:10.70.

Freshman Ivan Suazo (Brooklyn, N.Y. – Westland) had a career day in the 60m hurdles invite, earning a spot in the finals after clocking in with a personal-best time of 8.17 seconds. In the high jump invite, sophomore Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio – Bishop Hartley) brought home the gold, finishing atop the podium with a jump of 2.10 meters/ 6 feet 10.75-inches. Finally, freshman Colin Etchen (Edgerton, Ohio – Edgerton) and sophomore Micah Peters (York, Ontario - Vaughn Road Academy) each secured third-place finishes, with Etchen taking third in the pole vault and Peters securing the bronze in the triple jump.

At the Husky Classic, redshirt senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee) was the lone EMU competitor, taking part in the 3000m run. Fink ultimately finished with a time of 7:57.11 to take eighth-place out of 104 total runners. The Maumee, Ohio native, who narrowly missed his personal-best mark of 7:56.04, which is the second-best in the EMU record books, was also just four seconds away from second-place.

Fink also jumped into the top-20 of the Division I Indoor Qualifying List according to the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS). His 3000m time of 7:57.11 currently ranks No. 19 in the nation, while he also maintains the No. 37 spot in the 5000m.
