Conrad Named MAC Gymnast of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — For the first time in her career, junior Catie Conrad (Brighton, Mich. - Brighton) of the Eastern Michigan University women's gymnastics team was named the Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday, Feb. 14.
Conrad had a very strong meet this past week against Kent State, Feb. 10, helping EMU defeat the Golden Flashes by a final score of 195.750 – 195.550. Conrad competed all-around for the first time this season, tying for first with a score of 39.175. She also secured a first-place finish on bars with an excellent 9.875, while also notching a 9.90 on beam, which was a career-best. Finally, Conrad also chipped in a 9.675 on vault and a 9.725 on floor. In fact, Conrad's 39.175 in the all-around currently ranks No. 39 in the nation.
This marks the fourth MAC weekly award for the Eagles this season, as junior Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J. - Holmdel) was named the MAC Specialist of the Week twice, while senior Lacey Rubin (Plainview, N.Y. - Plainview Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy) earned the honor once. Conrad and the Green and White will return to the Land of Lincoln this week, heading to DeKalb, Ill. for a meet against Northern Illinois, Friday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. CT.
