YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Coming off a historic dual victory in which it posted its second consecutive undefeated Mid-American Conference dual record, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team sets its sights on the Ohio State University Winter Invite, Feb. 11-12, in Columbus, Ohio. There, a select group of Eagles will compete in the two-day event, taking on swimmers from Missouri, Cleveland State, Louisville, Kentucky, Miami, Purdue, Vanderbilt, and Wright State.
Senior Mary Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) won three events and Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area) added two wins of her own as EMU completed the dual portion of its 2016-17 season with a 185-115 win over Miami University, Saturday, Feb. 4, on Senior Day. The win marked the Eagles' eighth dual victory of the year, their most since the 2007-08 campaign. Additionally, it marked the Green and White's second consecutive season with an undefeated Mid-American Conference record, as EMU sits at 4-0 in conference and 8-0 overall.
At last season's OSU Winter Invite, then-junior Emily Wimmer (Hammond, Ind.-Munster) and then-sophomore Hannah Newell (Ames, Iowa-Ames) paced the Green and White. Wimmer won the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:04.51, while Newell turned in a pair of second-place finishes.
Heading to the Buckeye State to take part in the annual invite this season for the Eagles are a mix of freshman and veterans. Competition at the OSU Winter Invite is set to get underway Saturday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m. with preliminary heats, while the finals heat will begin at 5 p.m. Live results can be found here.
