Select Eagles will compete in the OSU Invitational this weekend, Feb. 11-12

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — With dual competition in the rearview mirror, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will send a small contingent to the Ohio State University Winter Invitational this weekend, Feb. 11-12, in Columbus, Ohio. The two-day event will pit the Eagles against swimmers from Missouri, Cleveland State, Louisville, Kentucky, Miami, Purdue, Vanderbilt, and Wright State.

EMU closed out dual competition on a high note, defeating Miami, 188.5-110.5, on Senior Day, Feb. 4. The Eagles won 10-of-16 events on the day to best the RedHawks. Senior Alex Chan (Toronto, Ontario-Neil McNeil Catholic Secondary) paced the Green and White on the springboard, securing the sweep of the 1 and 3 meter dives. On the 3-meter, Chan broke the 400-point barrier and claimed the win with a season-best score of 409.95. The Toronto native then reeled in first-place honors on the 1-meter, posting a score of 369.75. Meanwhile, sophomore Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary) remained perfect in the backstroke events. Kawaguchi won both the 100 and 200 Back, turning in his fifth sweep of the events this season.

At last season's OSU Winter Invitational, then-sophomore Hunter Cook (Hilliard, Ohio-Hilliard Darby) highlighted a strong showing for the Eagles. Cook posted a pair of top-three finishes and was the top Mid-American Conference finisher in each of his races, ultimately earning him MAC Swimmer of the Week honors.

This season, the Green and White will send a mix of freshman and veterans to the Buckeye State for the annual invitational. Competition at the OSU Winter Invite is set to get underway Saturday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m. with preliminary heats, while the finals heat will begin at 5 p.m. Live results can be found here.
