YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University women's gymnastics team came out on top in a nail biter against the Kent State Golden Flashes today, Feb. 10, by a final score of 195.750 – 195.550. The Eagles were trailing heading into the final event, but a clutch floor rotation sealed the victory for the Green and White.

"I loved the fight from our team on beam and floor today," exclaimed Head Coach Sarah Brown. "We've had some issues on those events this season, so it was great to see us recover from some small miscues and get back on track. The team loved being back in Bowen, competing in front of a nice crowd. We had some great career-highs today also, so overall it was a great day for us."

The Eagles kicked off the meet with a strong vault rotation, notching a 48.725, which is EMU's second best vault rotation of the year. Sophomore Ciara Gresham (Shiloh, Ill. – Belleville) paced the Eagles, tying her career-high with a 9.800. Behind her, junior Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J. – Holmdel) and sophomore Megan Hultgren (Rockford, Ill. – Sacred Heart Classical Center) each turned in solid vaults, posting a pair of 9.75's. From there, junior Julia Schwartz (Gilbert, Ariz. – Mesquite) went sky high on her vault, earning a 9.725. Freshman Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill. – Carl Sandburg) rounded out EMU's scoring five, as she kicked in a 9.700. With one rotation down, Eastern led Kent State, 48.725 – 48.575.

As they had been doing all season, Eastern once again had an excellent bars rotation, earning a 49.050, which was just out of the top-10 in the EMU record books. Conrad continued her hot streak, earning a 9.875 after a beautiful routine, which also gave her the event title. Tying for second-place was senior Lacey Rubin (Plainview, N.Y. – Plainview Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy) and Valentin, both of whom scored a 9.825. Also joining the 9.8 or better club was senior Natalie Gervais (Winnipeg, Manitoba – Sturgeon Heights), as she scored a 9.800. Finally, senior Sydney McEachern (Winnipeg, Manitoba – Kelvin) posted a 9.725 in the leadoff spot with a clean routine. After vault and bars, EMU remained in front by a slim margin, 97.775 – 97.550.

The Eagles next traveled to beam, where they had their best rotation of the season, notching a 49.000, which is the ninth-best beam total in the EMU record books. Conrad and Valentin each had fantastic routines, as both scored career-highs with a pair of 9.9's. Behind the junior duo, Rubin also had a strong set, notching a 9.825 in the fourth spot. Hultgren, in the leadoff spot, got the event started with a solid 9.750, while Gervais pitched in a 9.625. Heading into the last event, Kent State jumped ahead, 146.850 – 146.775.

With the meet very close heading into the final event, EMU needed to deliver a great floor rotation. They did just that, notching a 48.975, which tied the team's best event total of the season. McEachern had a huge set for the Eagles, notching a 9.875 to secure the win on the final routine. Behind her, junior Megan Marino (Girard, Ohio – Howland) tied her career-high with a 9.825, while Gendron matched her with a 9.825 of her own, also tying her personal-best. Conrad also chipped in a 9.725, while Dobronics also had a nice set with a 9.700. With all the scores tallied, Eastern emerged victorious, 195.750 – 195.550.

Eastern returns to the road next week, traveling west to DeKalb, Ill. for a bout with the Northern Illinois Huskies. Action from the Land of Lincoln is slated to begin at 6 p.m. CT.
