Valentin Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

The junior has now earned the honor twice in her career
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — After securing Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week honors yesterday, junior Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J. - Holmdel) of the Eastern Michigan University women's gymnastics team was named the MAC Women's Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday, Feb. 1.
Valentin, who holds a 3.93 GPA in biology, continued her stellar season for the Eagles in Kalamazoo, playing a pivotal role in EMU's big victory over WMU, along with also helping break the EMU bars record. The Holmdel, N.J. native began the meet on bars, tying her career-best with another excellent 9.925, highlighted by a clutch stuck dismount. On the final event of the day, the junior posted a 9.875 to pace the Green and White on beam, helping Eastern finish with the ninth-best beam total in program history.
This marks the second time in her career that Valentin has earned the award, as she was named Scholar Athlete of the Week and MAC Gymnast of the Week following the first meet of the season last year. The junior has already been making her presence known in 2017, securing MAC Specialist of the Week honors twice. Valentin and the Eagles will head west this weekend, traveling to Chicago for a meet with the UIC Flames, Sunday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m.
