CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team concludes dual action in the 2017 calendar year when it heads to Cleveland, Ohio for a bout against Cleveland State University. Action against the Vikings inside Woodling Gym is set to begin at 7 p.m.

EMU VS. THE VIKINGS: The Eagles hold a one-match advantage in the all-time series against the Vikings, leading 12-11. EMU and CSU will square off for the 13th straight season when they hit the mats tomorrow. Eastern has won the last two meetings, including last season's dual, 38-12.

LAST SEASON VS. CSU: Last year, EMU dominated CSU in a 38-12 victory inside the Convocation Center. The Eagles won eight of ten bouts, including four by fall and one via technical fall. Only one of EMU's losses came on the mat, as the other was forfeited. Eastern returns six of the eight wrestlers who tallied wins that day.

HUTCHISON NAMED MAC WRESTLER OF THE WEEK: Heavyweight Gage Hutchison was named the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week, Nov. 29. It was the first weekly honor for EMU this season, as well as the first of his career. The veteran went 2-0 in his duals against Indiana and Binghamton, winning both by pin.

MOVING UP THE RECORD BOOK: In his five-year EMU career, Gage Hutchison has racked up 84 career victories, which ranks 10th all-time. EMU Hall of Fame inductee Steve Brown holds the all-time record with 117 wins.

RETURN TO THE LAND: Plenty of members of the EMU wrestling team have a connection to the Cleveland and northern Ohio area. Head and Assistant Coaches David Bolyard and Scott Mattingly are both from Akron and, with the northern Ohio roots, they have recruited heavily in that area. Current wrestlers Zac Carson (Akron), Jared Leidich (Olmstead Falls/ St. Edward HS), Andrew McNally (Uniontown), and Armando Torres (Lorain), as well as recent graduate and volunteer coach Nick Barber (Cleveland/St. Edward HS) are all from within 50 miles of the city.

UP NEXT ON THE MATS: EMU has one final main event before the New Year, as it will head to The Midlands Tournament held in Evanston, Ill. Dec. 29-30.
