Logan Burton Named MAC Swimmer of the Week

This is the second time Burton has received the honor this season

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Senior Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory) of the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team was named the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week, Dec. 7, for his dominating performance at the EMU Invitational Friday-Saturday, Dec. 1-2. Burton was also named CollegeSwimming.com MAC Swimmer of the Week Wednesday, Dec. 6, for his efforts last weekend.

During the two-day event, Burton was part of a handful of record-breaking swims and had a pair of individual event wins. The Chesapeake, Va. native started the meet on a strong note, clocking the fastest 200 butterfly time in the conference this season at 1:46.45. With this season-best time, Burton broke the previous meet record set in 1986 by more than a full second. The senior went on to sweep the fly events with a first-place finish in the 100 fly with a season-best time of 48.59. Burton then capped his individual events with a third-place finish in the 100 back, touching in at 49.34.  

In the relay events, the senior aided his cohorts to four top-finishes and set new records in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays. In the 400 free relay, Burton and his group bested the pool with a time of 2:59.56, demolishing the previous pool and meet records set in 1992 and 2014, respectively. His final record-breaking swim came in the 800 free relay, where he assisted the foursome to breaking the previous meet record set by Michigan in 2002 by a full second at 6:39.59. Moving to the 200 medley relay, Burton posted the fastest 50 backstroke split to aid the squad to a top-finish before his 200 free relay team took first with a time of 1:21.99.

The EMU Invitational marked the end of the 2017 portion of the Eagles schedule as they will not return to action until 2018 when the face Ball State University. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. in Muncie, Ind.
